Nest Aware Just Got Pricier: Here’s What Google Changed and Why It Matters

If you’re one of the millions relying on Google’s Nest cameras to keep your home safe, there’s a change you should know about—Google has increased the price of its Nest Aware subscriptions, and people aren’t exactly thrilled.

Nest Aware is the monthly subscription service that gives users access to features like event video history, intelligent alerts (such as recognizing people vs. motion), and sound detection for things like smoke alarms. It’s a must-have if you want to get the most out of your Nest security setup.

Now, Google has quietly bumped up the price. The standard Nest Aware plan, which previously cost $6/month or $60/year, is now $8/month or $80/year. The Nest Aware Plus plan, which offered 24/7 video recording and 60 days of event history for $12/month, has also gone up to $15/month or $150/year. These new prices are already in effect for new users, while existing subscribers will see the increase reflected in their upcoming billing cycle.

Google hasn’t given a detailed reason for the price hike, but it's likely tied to rising costs for cloud storage and maintaining the infrastructure behind the scenes. While the price bump may seem small, for long-time users, it's just another example of how the smart home ecosystem is becoming more expensive to maintain.

For users who depend on Nest for peace of mind, the service is still valuable—but the increase is certainly a nudge to reevaluate if you’re getting enough bang for your buck. Whether you choose to stick around or look at other options, one thing’s clear: smart home convenience doesn’t come cheap.
